The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology is a research institute of the Max Planck Society. It was founded in 1992 in the State of Bremen and employs about 200 people. In close cooperation with numerous university and non-university research institutions, we investigate the diversity and function of microorganisms in the ocean and their interactions with their environment. Researchers from all over the world, engineers, technicians and administrative staff make an important contribution to global marine and environmental research.

In order to support the scientific community, we are looking for a

Coordinator of Scientific IT (m/f/d)

to facilitate interactions between scientific research and the IT infrastructure group. As the successful candidate for the advertised position, you are a life scientist with a strong background in IT or a computer scientist with several years of experience in life sciences. You should be able to understand the scientific research of the departments and groups of the institute, in particular as it pertains to interfacing and collaborating with the IT support group. The position is important for all scientific groups at the institute, and therefore the Scientific IT Coordinator will report directly to the Managing Director.

Your tasks:

  • Identification and formulation of hardware and software requirements in the institute.
  • Regular training of scientists in the use of IT.
  • Advice on data management and support in its implementation.
  • Individual consultations with scientists on the use of hardware and software.
  • Planning and introduction of new hardware and software in close collaboration with the IT infrastructure group.
  • Assistance in applying for funds for hardware and software.

Your qualifications:

  • Completed university education in either natural sciences or in computer sciences combined with proven experience in the field of life
    science-related IT.
  • Thorough knowledge of English; willingness to learn the German language.
  • Strong orientation on service and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and team working ability.

We offer a position in an international science environment. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate with an appreciation for basic research and an enthusiasm for new innovative technologies. We encourage and support further training. The salary is based on the German TVöD and depending on personal requirements up to Group 14 TVöD. The position is limited to three years with a possibility for extension.
